: Can someone please explain to me why abortion is okay, because I feel like I'm missing something here.

ghost-plot:

dickmilk:

I don’t understand why abortions are allowed to women who want to terminate just because their baby is an accident. Fair enough if you’ve been raped, the contraception failed, you’re underage, mentally ill, if the pregnancy puts you in any sort of danger, or if the child is going to be deformed and therefore won’t have a good quality of life. But if you’re perfectly capable of raising a baby, and your only excuse is that you can’t be bothered to raise the child (that’s only here in the first place because of your own fucking irresponsibility), I don’t think you should be allowed an abortion. I just think it’s really fucking unfair.

I’m not at all anti-feminist but I don’t understand why feminism and pro-choice seem to go hand in hand? Always with the argument “it’s my body”. Yes, it’s your body, but I don’t see how that gives you permission to murder a completely seperate, individual human being that just so happens to be inside of your body. Do whatever you want with your own body, just don’t expect to have the right to destroy another human being’s.

No one can determine when that egg turns into a living human being, so I don’t agree with the “it’s not a human being” argument. There have been babies born who were still under the age at which they could have been aborted and have survived, so this argument is pretty invalid.

Someone please explain this to me

Ok:

Who say’s they’re “pefectly capable of raising a baby”? Many people who abort do so because they’re not capable of raising a baby. If the pregnancy is a result of irresponsibility, then what would indicate that a person is able to raise a child? If they’re making such simple mistakes as incorrectly using birth control, then how on Earth can they reasonably raise a child? Also, children are punishments. They don’t deserve to be raised by someone who doesn’t want them and who doesn’t know how to care for them.

Yes, it’s your body, but I don’t see how that gives you permission to murder a completely seperate, individual human being that just so happens to be inside of your body

Except, it’s not separate or individual. It needs the pregnant person to survive. A fetus literally lives and feeds off it’s mother. Pregnancy causes many illnesses because the fetus is not separate. A pregnant person can live without the fetus, a fetus cannot live without the person. Again, pregnancy is not a punishment. There have been very few babies born at an age when abortion is still legal and many of them do not survive. Yes, some may, but 90 percent of abortions are done before 12 weeks and nothing can live at that stage.

People who can become pregnant aren’t incubators. In an ideal world, abortion would never need to happen. As it is, however, it’s needed. If someone isn’t responsible enough to raise themselves, then it’s cruel to the child and the person to make them raise a child.

I support abortion because I don’t support putting more kids in the foster care system. I don’t support child abuse and neglect. I don’t support using women as incubators. I don’t support people telling other people what to do with their bodies. And I do support knowing science and facts and recognizing the fact that a fetus is just that, it’s a fetus. It is not its own person and it is not more important than the one carrying it.

Shoot me an ask if you want to discuss this further (or just reblog if you have more to say than the ask allows.)
